Joslyn Boyer grew up in a musical family and began playing bass at age 10. She was in orchestra and choir at school all the way through college, where she earned a degree in biology.

Her musical background is rooted in traditional American folk music. The records of John Hurt, The Carter Family, Willie Johnson, Gary Davis, and Rosetta Tharpe played frequently in the house Joslyn grew up in. Joslyn loves drawing on tradition while leaving room for creativity and inspiration to foster something new. She is deeply connected in the Old Time and Bluegrass scene in Austin and is an on-call bass player for some of the best bluegrass players in town, including several musicians with Grammy nominations.

She has had the opportunity to be involved with several studio projects in recent years. She released an album of traditional music with her dad in 2021 and a live EP of fiddle tunes with her string band in 2025. She has performed at several festivals, including The Austin String Band Festival and SXSGrass. She made her debut at MerleFest in April of 2026.
